The Eternal Winebook

This is my personal version of an eternal Book of Portuguese Wines. The book is eternal in the way that it never stays the same. Now and then new pages are added, or the old pages are rewritten, updated or corrected.

Dark wine with intense aromas of blackcurrant. Pleasant wine with not too much tannins. We had the wine with panfried Danish meat balls. Lovely daily wine, which can also be enjoyed without food.

Beautiful pink wine with scents of red berries and rhubarb. Dry wine with a little tannin and some bitterness in the finish. We had the wine with fillets with French fries and a salad, to which it went well. I’m not sure this wine is one you would enjoy without food.

The label says: “For hard times, Porta 6 is a nice wine, soft, tasteful, healthy and well-prepared and at a fair price. This is Vidigal Vinho’s proposal on how to increase your quality of life. “

It is a dark wine with purple edges and scents of dark fruits. The wine has a high level of acidity and pleasant tannins. Went well with Danish meat balls (frikadeller).

Classification: Lisboa V.R.

Shop: Garrafeira Nacional, Lisbon (More shops).

Price: € 16.50.

Rating in Martins: Not rated.

This wine produced in Cheleiros in the Lisbon region, is still the only one produced from the Jamal grape. André Manz named the wine Dona Fátima after his mother-in-law.

The wine is bright and has intense scents of peach, citrus and vanilla. The taste is nice with good acidity and a little bitterness in the long finish. We had the wine with a green salad with smoked salmon, to which it went well. It was also good for sandwiches (cheese, egg, mackerel), but it was at its best with pan-fried salmon steak with almond and white wine sauce.

This salmon-colored wine is produced in Cheleiros near Mafra and has a scent of strawberries and raspberries. It is a dry, rich wine with good freshness. We had it for sandwiches, including herring and cheese, with which it tasted good, and it was also fine with fried chicken breast and boiled potatoes, mushroom stew and salad.

Quinta de Pancas Tinta Roriz

Type of wine: Red Wine.

Year: 1998.

Producer: Companhia das Quintas.

Grapes: Tinta Roriz.

Alcohol: 12.5%.

Classification: Estremadura V.R.

Shop: Charcutaria Duque, Monte Estoril (More shops).

Price: € 22.50.

Rating in Martins: Not rated.

6,500 bottles of this wine were bottled, and I found number 1311 in the local grocery store in Monte Estoril. It was the last survivor on the shelf, and it had probably been there for a while, – the cork was very dry and hard to pull. Fortunately, the wine was not damaged.

It is a red-golden wine with light scents of dried fruits. The taste is friendly with rounded tannins, fine acidity and a medium length finish. The wine was excellent with a nice dish with lamb steaks, fried potatoes, a mushrooms stew and a tomato salad. Everything got even better since we had our lunch on the balcony, overlooking the bay of Cascais.

Caves Velhas Bucellas Arinto

Dansk English

Type of wine: White Wine.

Year: 2014.

Grapes: Arinto.

Alcohol: 12.5%.

Classification: Bucelas DOC.

Shop: Duque, Monte Estoril (More shops).

Price: € 4.50.

Rating in Martins: Not rated.

This is the first time in many years that I drink a Bucelas wine. Last time was in the town of Bucelas, and it is probably more than 40 years ago.

The wine has intense floral touches and citrus. It is a dry wine with some acidity, and it was fine with our green salad mix with ham, brie and nuts, but it can also be enjoyed on its own.
