Vinho Tinto Eternal Wine Book

The Eternal Winebook

This is my personal version of an eternal Book of Portuguese Wines. The book is eternal in the way that it never stays the same. Now and then new pages are added, or the old pages are rewritten, updated or corrected.

Two years have passed since the last edition of Vinhos de Portugal was launched, but here is the 2018-edition. This time the book contains a chapter on Vinho Verde varietals made from Alvarinho. Apart from that everything is the same, – only the wines are new.

Three Portuguese and two French grapes were used for this Madeira table wine. The result is not convincing. Scents of red berries, caramel and tar, a rather acidic wine. Fine with a salad with ham, egg and cheese. You can also drink without food, but it’s not an amazing wine.

Yellow wine with scents of citrus, peach and vanilla. Strong taste in which you feel the Verdelho grape, relatively short finish with some taste of wood. The wine is better than the one I tried the other day (Atlantis Verdelho), but I don’t think I’ll ever be really excited about wines made from this grape. We had the wine with sandwichs and salad. It was OKwith the food, but not so nice without.

Camarate

Grapes in Portuguese Wines Posted on Mon, December 04, 2017 18:44:14

Dansk English

Berry colour: Black

Synonyms: Castelão Nacional.

Country of origin: Portugal.

Areas: Bairrada. Tejo, Lisboa.

Recommended for: Tasteful soups, veal, pork, chicken.

Camarate yields soft wines with low acidity, and it is often used for cheaper blended wines together with other grapes.

Varietals made from Camarate exist, but I have never found them. I have tasted the following blends:

Encostas do Bairro

Quinta das Setencostas

Bons Ventos

The wine is very light, almost pale. It has amazingly intense scents of citrus and peaches. It is a dry but rich wine with medium length finish. We had the wine for oven-baked cod wrapped with parma ham. It was a fine combination.

In 1811, Englishman John Blandy founded a company in Funchal, Madeira, which produced Madeira Wine. Today, Blandy is a part of Madeira Wine Company, which produced this white wine I. I have previously tasted the corresponding rosé wine, which I liked. Unfortunately, I’m not fond about this white wine, which is made 100% on Verdelhodruen, one of the traditional grapes for the making of Madeira wine.

It is a yellow wine with scents of citrus, passion fruit and marzipan. Very heavy but sour wine. I did not like it at all for salad and sandwich, and it is totally unsuitable as an aperitif. Perhaps it suits other types of food, but I doubt it.
